Tokyo Station by Oguma Hideo (東京駅 / 小熊秀雄)

Tokyo Station
is a monster serpent
with a flaming tongue
that swallows people’s lives
and spits them out again
At the entrance
in the morning, scared of being late,
they leap down the stairs
But in the evening,
exhausted and lifeless,
they ride the train in silence
In the end, pricked with the serpent’s poison,
their
paralysis
makes them indifferent.

東京駅は
ウハバミの
燃える舌で
市民の
生活を呑吐する
玄関口、
朝は遅刻を怖れて
階段を一足とび
夕は
疲れて生気なく
沈黙の省電に乗る
所詮、悪蛇の毒気に触れて
人々の
痲痺は
不感症なり。
