I had a bird
a black cat with kittens
and a dog in the garden

In the evenings I bought
greens for the bird
mackerel for the cats
meat for the dog
and also
three helpings of curry rice
I had a son
My shopping basket was so heavy back then!

These days, I go out without a basket
choose a loaf of bread and come back home

Everyone drifted away over the years
Carrying a light loaf of bread
I gaze up at the redness of the setting sun

小鳥がいて
黒猫の親子がいて
庭には犬がいて

夕方の買いものは
小鳥のための青菜と
猫のための小鯵と
犬のための肉と
それに
カレーライスを三杯もおかわりする
息子がいた
あのころの買い物籠の重かったこと!

いまは 籠も持たずに表通りに出て
パン一斤を求めて帰って来たりする

みんな時の向こうに流れ去ったのだ
パン一斤の軽さをかかえて
夕日の赤さに見とれている
