Stones by Kasugai Ken (石 / 春日井健)

A man thinks about the stones
A cool wind passes through
In the quarry
he kicks the stones around
When he was much younger
it was harder to kick at stones
They fought back, silent
and broke themselves apart
In his memories
the stones became men
manipulating stone muscles
cut off
along stone nerves
Weightless space
Now, the stones are calm
and obey the man
In this clean silence
he thinks about the stones

男は石を思っている
すずしい風の吹きとおる
石切場で
彼は石を打っている
彼がもっと若かったとき
石を打つことは難かった
石は黙って抗がった
みずから粉々と砕け散った
男が打つことを覚えたとき
石も男となった
石の筋肉をあやつって
石の神経にそって
切り落とす
無重力の空間
今、石は泰然自若として
男に従う
その清潔なしじまで
彼は石をおもっている
