ある筈のない文字さがす冬紅葉

Searching for a word
that I don’t expect to find
Winter’s red leaves

かくじつに階段は果つ天の川

I know for certain
At the top of the staircase
Is the Milky Way

げんげ咲き胸底という長い廊下

The present blooms
A long corridor called
The bottom of the heart

ただひとりにも波を打つ冬の水

Even all alone
A wave crashes
Winter water

どこにもなくてどこにもありて寒の月

nowhere
everywhere
cold moon

ぬかご飯水辺の母は跼んでいた

Rice bran
Mother’s round back bent over
The water’s edge

一月の全景として鷗二羽

As a panorama
of January
two sea gulls

夢に夢みて寒の月とり逃がす

A dream in a dream
The cold moon
escapes from me

手をつなぐため薄氷を壊すかな

To hold your hand
must I break the thin ice?

春の道ひとつは黒船へつながる

A spring road
tied to a black ship

狂うために生れるまえの障子開く

To make me crazy
Before I was born
A paper door opens

紅茸を蹴り夭折に遅れおり

Kicking benitake mushrooms
Late for an early death
