Ami Tanaka (b. 1970) is a haiku poet and a scholar of modern and contemporary German poetry. Born in Meguro City, Tokyo, she joined Kaitei in 1998, studying under Tohta Kaneko, and would go on to win the Kaitei Newcomer Award in 2001 and the Kaitei Prize in 2012. She also won the 24th Gendai Haiku New Face Award in 2005. She is a part-time lecturer at Aoyama Gakuin University and Jissen Women’s University. Tanaka is a member of the Gendai Haiku Association, the Haiku International Association, and the Japan Writers’ Association. In addition, she has reviewed haiku for several outlets, including the Asahi Shimbun and Kadokawa’s Haiku. Since 2018 she has been a member of Kaigen.
